About
Mike began his career on the staff of U.S. Senator Bob Dole in Washington, D.C., where he conducted legislative and Judiciary Committee research. He later served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps (TBS 4-85) before founding Wolivar & Associates, Inc. in 1995. Under his leadership, the firm grew into a respected boutique practice specializing in complex investigations, protective intelligence, and discreet specialized services. Mike also developed the SafeWatch Team™, a specialized resource for protective intelligence and discreet investigations.
For more than 30 years, Mike has advised family offices, attorneys, corporations, and private clients on complex and highly sensitive matters involving litigation, employment, executive protection, workplace violence, privacy, reputation management, due diligence, and internal investigations.
Mike has extensive experience in California civil litigation, serving as a key investigator and trusted advisor in dozens of high-value, high-stakes matters. Working alongside many of California’s leading trial attorneys, he has helped develop critical facts, evaluate evidence, interview witnesses, and provide strategic investigative support throughout every stage of litigation, including trial.
Many of these engagements required coordinating multidisciplinary investigative efforts, developing critical facts and intelligence, and helping clients navigate matters involving significant legal, financial, operational, and reputational risk.
Earlier in his career, Mike conducted claims and litigation investigations for major insurance carriers and leading third-party administrators, including Sedgwick CMS and Gallagher Bassett. These assignments strengthened the analytical discipline, objectivity, and attention to detail that continue to guide his work today.
Throughout his career, Mike has worked alongside accomplished professionals across investigative, protective intelligence, security, cybersecurity, forensic accounting, and risk management disciplines. These long-standing professional relationships provide clients with trusted relationships, proven field-tested resources, and broad international resources.
As Wolivar & Associates, Inc. grew, the firm employed up to 14 full-time investigative professionals. Mike directed their work while overseeing complex engagements that frequently required coordinating specialized expertise across multiple disciplines. That leadership experience continues to inform his advisory role today, helping clients identify the right resources, coordinate specialized capabilities, and maintain continuity throughout each engagement.
Today, Mike serves as a trusted advisor to family offices, general counsels, corporations, and private clients facing complex, highly sensitive matters. Drawing upon decades of experience, independent judgment, and carefully developed professional relationships, he helps clients evaluate options, coordinate specialized resources, and make informed decisions with confidence, discretion, and unwavering attention to confidentiality.
Throughout his career, Mike has been guided by a simple principle: difficult matters require trusted judgement, discretion, and the right people working together toward a successful resolution.
