The Right Specialist
In sensitive and high-consequence matters, selecting the right professional can significantly influence the outcome. Whether the assignment involves protective intelligence, personal security, due diligence, digital forensics, privacy concerns, litigation support, or developing difficult-to-obtain information and evidence, choosing the wrong specialist can result in unnecessary expense, lost opportunities, compromised privacy, or work that must be repeated.

Identifying genuine expertise is often more difficult than it appears. Many professionals market themselves as specialists, while many of the most capable investigative, intelligence, security, and risk-management professionals are not widely known. They rely primarily on referrals and longstanding professional relationships built upon consistent performance, sound judgment, and discretion.

Professional titles, prior positions, and organizational affiliations may reflect valuable experience, but they do not necessarily predict success in the private sector. Government, military, and law-enforcement service can provide an excellent foundation, yet the expectations of private-sector clients are different. Success requires sound judgment, discretion, adaptability, cost-effective problem solving, and the consistent ability to produce results while protecting the client’s interests and confidentiality.

For this reason, demonstrated private-sector performance is often a more meaningful measure of professional capability than titles, credentials, or prior affiliations. The qualities that distinguish exceptional professionals are not always apparent from a résumé, website, or marketing materials.

Over more than 30 years, Mike has worked alongside investigative, intelligence, security, and protective specialists across numerous disciplines. Through direct operational experience, he has had the opportunity to identify, evaluate, and develop relationships with professionals whose capabilities have been proven through years of successful private-sector performance.

His experience has reinforced a simple principle: expertise is not interchangeable. The individual selected for an assignment can significantly influence its cost, efficiency, quality, and ultimate success.

For family offices, general counsel, private clients, and their advisors, the objective is straightforward—to identify and retain the professional whose experience, judgment, discretion, and capabilities are best suited to the particular needs of the matter.
